Luweero Student Dies After Alleged Beating by Teachers, Two Arrested

Police in Luweero District have arrested two suspects and launched investigations into the death of a student who allegedly died from injuries sustained after being beaten by teachers at New Life Secondary School in Kizito Zone, Luweero Town Council.

The deceased has been identified as Nicholas Nakibinge, a student at the school, who reportedly died while being rushed to hospital. Another student, who was allegedly assaulted in the same incident, is currently admitted and receiving treatment.

The incident reportedly occurred as a group of teachers was disciplining students accused of wearing non-school uniforms and keeping long hair, contrary to the school’s regulations.

According to Savannah Regional Police spokesperson ASP Sam Twineamazima, police were notified about the incident and immediately launched investigations.

“We received information regarding an incident at New Life Secondary School where two students were reportedly beaten by teachers. One of the victims, identified as Nicholas Nakibinge, unfortunately died while being taken to hospital, while the other is currently admitted and receiving medical attention,” ASP Twineamazima said.

He said two suspects have been arrested to assist with investigations, while the main suspect remains at large.

“Two suspects are in custody, and efforts to arrest the key suspect are ongoing,” he added.

ASP Twineamazima said investigations are continuing to establish the circumstances surrounding the alleged assault and determine individual responsibility.

Police have urged the public to remain calm and allow the investigative process to take its course as authorities pursue all individuals linked to the incident.
